What's up with SEO in 2012
We're all wondering what is going to happen with SEO in 2012. People are questioning and talking about possible new side effects on SEO this year. Search engines are constantly changing search engine algorithms. The majority of chatter is trying to guess what is going to happen, putting an opinion together with what they have tested out last year versus what they know as truth.
First thing, pay attention to your domain name. Using your keywords as a domain name is an excellent form of on page SEO technique.
I know that social networking is huge and its going to get bigger. People like making friends online and sharing what they know. Heck that's why half of us are here to begin with. I'm continuing to look at how I can maximize my social network affiliations, it will stay high on my list of priorities.
I'm also looking at Pininterest and Google +, they are new and should be exciting this year.
I know that mobile is here to stay. If you aren't looking into having your website SEO optimized for mobile access you will be missing out. Looking at how mobile search and buying patterns are utilized is a must this year.
Huffington Post states that 7 percent of 2011's christmas shopping came from IPads, which had only been released 18 months earlier. Surely as this year continues that market will grow. Mobile SEO is a must.
We all should know that our customers, the people we speak to everyday, want something fresh and new to read, not the same old thing just reworded. What is cool and up to the minute. You know the "thats 12 seconds ago"… well as far as customers are concerned it was, now what do you have that's new?
I know for myself, I have a short attention span when I'm surfing the net. I want what's current creative and fresh.
I do know that our customers want more to experience within our sites, so I will continue to look for inovative ways to give them that. What new ways can I create interaction and community on my sites.
On Page Basics
I know that the basics we have all been following still matter and are important to a successful website. It's so important to take the time to fill in basics on a webpage. Search engines have to have the pages information or your not going anywhere. So I know if I continue to follow these SEO basics I am ahead of some of my competition.
- titles, meta tag descriptions
- image alt text
- varied anchor text
- quality content is huge
- keyword selection is still the most important part of SEO
- linking to quality sources
How important will they continue to be, I don't know but I will continue to use them as well as new SEO applications that come into play.
I also know page speed can be a problem so keeping your site, page speed oriented can be a serious plus. Formating images before uploading is important, that is a simple way to cut down on page drag.
All of this is my opinion based on current information, from experience, SEOMoz and other industry gurus.
The only way to figure out what works for you is to test out what you are putting together.
So go for it!
